I think the biggest advantage that graphic novels offer is that they are oftentimes "fun" to read. It may make students feel as though they are not really reading, but following a story line from picture to picture. It's easy to get caught up in the comic-strip feel of it and make it feel as though you are not reading. In this way, you could really attract students who may not enjoy reading or those who read more slowly. A potential problem may be that students may not take graphic novels seriously because they seem more "fun" and less real. In addition, as a teacher, you need to find graphic novels that have good content and meaning.
